I know you've been there...the space between where you are and where you want to be. It's called the messy middle because often, it's uncomfortable. And it's a place so many of us get stuck and fail to find belief.
Belief in what?
Belief that things can change. Belief that what feels impossible actually really isn't. Belief that God is bigger than your circumstances and He desires to work good things for you-despite the challenges you've been focused on instead.
I've been in the messy middle and I have to tell you, it's not always pleasant while you're in there- because when you're walking through it, it can feel anything but fun. It's those trials by fire, as some say, that tend to produce the gold. And whether you're feeling stuck and stagnant or challenged against an obstacle or trial, either way, God's using that to produce a harvest that will eventually yield fruit. But here's the thing about fruit...it's usually the last thing to produce on a tree. And that often takes patience as you wait for it.
I don't know about you, but when I'm in circumstances like this, I sometimes get discouraged. I'll see someone who has it easier and I'll get distracted in my comparing. Or I'll start to wallow that I'm not where I had hoped I would be. Isn't that like us? Wanting to coast along an easy path?
But life isn't always easy. It's often the hard things, the trials, the MESS that define (and refine!) us!
Here's what I love about God...He uses those seasons to sanctify and to point us back to Him. Because in the Kingdom, everything is an opportunity. An opportunity to grow, to learn, to grieve, to sympathize, to help us understand each other and God's goodness, and even to view our mistakes, wrong choices, or sin, in light of His grace.
How can I say that with full belief? Because in Romans 8:28 it says, "And we know that God works all things for good for those who love him, and have been called according to His purpose."
So what if instead of thinking of this space, this messy middle, as not ideal, we begin to look at it as purpose-FULL and exactly where we're supposed to be?!
